SRINAGAR: President A P J Abdul Kalam would prefer to be remembered as a good human being rather than as the president, a great scientist or a great teacher.

Interacting with children at the Raj Bhawan here, Kalam said in response to a question from a student, "I would like to be remembered as a good human being."

He told the children that creativity was an essential element for building the new India of their dreams and that nothing was impossible.

"You are all in the mission of learning. When learning is purposeful, creativity blossoms. When creativity blossoms, thinking emanates. When thinking emanates, knowledge is fully lit. When knowledge is lit, the economy flourishes."

Kalam highlighted scientific advances made over the past few centuries, including the first powered flight by the Wright brothers, man's landing on the moon and the diversion by NASA of an asteroid that was likely to hit the earth.

"I would like the youth assembled here to take a lesson from these examples and work to make everything possible," said Kalam, who is on a two-day visit to Kashmir.

"Human flight is nothing but creativity of the human mind and it undergoes several struggles to achieve excellence," he pointed out.

Kalam told the children to fix an aim and to work constantly towards achieving it. "If you love your subject you will develop a deep interest which will enable you to manage your time better. Do not allow any pressure to influence you."

The president also administered a six-point oath to the children, which enjoined them to plant saplings and become friends of the mentally and physically challenged.
