Trio arrested for security breach at PM's house

NEW DELHI: Three youth, including two airhostesses, who breached security at the prime minister's official residence here on Thursday night while a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security was going on, were on Friday arrested and charged with trespassing and impersonation.

Yogita Khatwani, Veena Chowdhary and their friend Imran, all in their 20s, had sailed past the first gate at the prime minister's residence, allegedly saying they were Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's relatives. They were turned away from the second gate after it was found they had no appointment.

Surprisingly, their car was allowed to leave from the exit gate and only after a hue and cry raised by the media after one of the girls blew kisses at cameramen waiting at the gate, did the security apparatus get into action.

The trio was intercepted near INA Market in South Delhi and taken to the Chanakyapuri police station for questioning. A medical checkup was conducted to ascertain whether they were under the influence of liquor or drugs.

The PMO claimed it was not a security breach. People could come up to the reception, saying they have an appointment. But only those with genuine appointments were allowed further and others were turned away, it was stated.

Breach or not, it was definitely a lapse which left quite a few red faces in the Special Protection Group.
