KOLKATA: The dissident faction in the Cricket Association of Bengal on Saturday scoffed at suggestions that the e-mail in which Sourav Ganguly raised the banner of
revolt against long-time mentor Jamgohan Dalmiya was concocted, and said that it had been sent to his uncle.

"Sanjay Chatterjee is Sourav's maternal uncle. The e-mail was sent to him," Raja Venkat, dissident leader and the group's candidate for the post of joint secretary in the July
30 CAB elections, said at a media meet.

While releasing the e-mail yesterday, the faction's presidential nominee for the polls and city police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee had said that the mail was sent to Sourav's elder brother Snehasish.

"Snehasish is sitting here. Had the mail not been genuine, do you think he would have released it?" Mukherjee asked.

Highly-placed sources in the CAB had expressed doubts about the genuineness of the mail that had sanjyy87@hotmail.com as the intended recipient.

In his missive, Ganguly had accused the former Cricket Board chief of "playing" with his career.

"People who leak e-mails and sacrifice players' careers should be heavily punished. There are people in CAB who are playing with players' careers to suit them. They should not be allowed to go scot-free as it takes years of hard work to reach a certain level in sports," Ganguly said in the e-mail sent from London, where he is now playing county cricket for Northamptonshire.
