Sleek system for other airports too
MUMBAI: A new, state-of-the-art explosives detection system will soon be installed at Mumbai airport in wake of the serial bomb blasts of July 11, as part of the drive to increase security at all “sensitive” airports in the country.
The other airports include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. “We had a demonstration at Mumbai airport today and expect it to be installed soon,” Sanjay Prakash, senior commandant of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said.
“The deal with relevant agencies will be finalised soon,” a top security official added.
The CISF is planning to purchase the system from the US or France and budget for the acquisition is likely to run into crores.
The buy will include the automatic explosive detector and an explosive tracer detection system.
Besides, the hand-held metal detectors will be replaced by ultra-sensitive ones, security officials said.
