PUNE: The prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp case Abdul Karim Telgi was on Monday admitted to the state-government run Sassoon General Hospital after he began vomitting since Sunday at his solitary cell in Yerawada Central Jail.

"He vomitted on Sunday and Monday and was feeling giddy. Therefore, Telgi was brought to the hospital where he was admitted," his lawyer Milind Pawar said.

An HIV postive, Telgi who also suffers from many other ailments, had to be admitted to the hospital for the same reason in June.

His haemoglobin has reduced and lower part of the feet turned black, Pawar said, adding that Telgi has asked him to file an application in the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court to allow him to get treatment at a private hospital at government's cost.

The lawyer said, Telgi, who cannot afford to get himself treated at the private hospital, had asked the government to bear the cost of his treatment.

Telgi is lodged in the high-security egg-shaped cell at Yerwada prison and is facing trial for circulating fake stamp papers in Pune.

The Bund garden police here had seized fake stamp papers worth RS 2.98 lakhs and bared Telgi's syndicate in 2002.

The trial is yet to begin although police has filed chargesheet against Telgi and 67 other accused, including his wife Shahida Telgi, politicians and policemen.

The chargesheet in this case was filed on July 26 last year.
