About 800 naxalites stormed a CRPF post and a relief camp. They fled after abducting over 20, including a woman Special Police Officer.
RAIPUR: Naxalites on Monday killed 20 villagers and injured 150, besides kidnapping over 20 people in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.
"About 800 naxalites simultaneously attacked a Central Reserve Police Force post and a state government run relief camp at Errabore at 1 a.m. killing 20 villagers and injuring 150 people of the camp," official sources from Konta block of Dantewada district said over the telephone.
Over 20 people, including a woman Special Police Officer, were abducted by the naxalites from the camp, where about 4,000 villagers were staying because of the naxal threat, sources said.
Naxalites first attacked the CRPF camp so as to engage the security forces and then they raided the relief camp and carried out blasts and opened indiscriminate firing, besides setting on fire the huts of the camps at Errabore relief camp, about 40 kilometres from Konta block headquarters, sources said.
When a CRPF party chased them, the Naxalites sneaked into the nearby jungles along with over 20 kidnapped villagers, they said.
Dantewada district Collector KR Pisda said the security forces are searching the area to trace the kidnapped villagers.
"We do not rule out killing of the abducted people as the naxalites resorted to that practice," he said.
Naxalites had also set about 50 houses on fire which claimed lives of some villagers, sources from Errabore said.
"Three buses have been arranged to take the injured to Konta block headquarters," the sources said.
State Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam will leave for the spot with senior police officials in a plane once the weather is clear, police said.
However, the state and district police headquarters expressed inability to provide details, saying Erranore police station has no telephone.
