On Tuesday, Reader’s Digest editor Mohan Sivanand spent the night helping stranded people. “I could smell something burning when I drove past Mahim. There were huge crowds on the roads,” said Sivanand. He dropped four people home, all strangers.

Interestingly, Reader’s Digest had done a survey ‘Maximum Rude City’. Sivanand said, “Nobody noticed our edit which praised the city for reaching out to each other in times of crisis and disaster.”

Plus, he pointed out, that people don’t really say please and thank you or open doors. “No one was rude (during our survey). I would say they are neutral. I went with a reporter the first day of the survey. Our reporter threw down her folder, a man walked over it, no one else helped.

“The man was questioned and apologised saying that people in Mumbai are very busy.” Not too busy to help on Tuesday night though. “Mumbaikars have a spirit to survive at cost and on Tuesday, it showed.”
