MADRID: The 33-year-old Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos dropped a bombshell on Wednesday, telling his Spanish club Real Madrid he wanted to leave after ten years of ups and downs.

According to the online edition of sports daily Marca, Roberto Carlos has told new Real president Ramon Calderon and sporting director Pedja Mijatovic that he wants to leave the Estadio Bernabeu.

Carlos has made no secret of the fact that he is sitting on a succulent offer from Chelsea.

Real may be interested in swapping Roberto Carlos for Asier del Horno, who has failed to impress Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.

New Real coach Fabio Capello has said he wants Roberto Carlos to stay on, but the Brazilian international now seems determined to leave.

It was Capello who signed Roberto Carlos for Real from Internazionale in 1996. He has won three Champions League and three Spanish leagues with Real, but has looked unhappy during the past troubled, trophy-less seasons.
