Sharapova vows to carry on shrieking

LONDON: Maria Sharapova says she will carry on shrieking with every shot at Wimbledon despite criticism from her quarter-final opponent Elena Dementieva.

The Russian's habit of screeching with effort every time she hits the ball was a feature of her 6-1, 6-4 win on Tuesday and Dementieva later said she thought the chair umpire should order the teenager to quieten down.

"Personally I think it's a little bit too much," said Dementieva. "I think the umpire should calm down her a little bit. Next time I beat her, I will say something. But when you losing... it doesn't look good if you go to the umpire and talking about how loud she screaming on the court."

Sharapova faces top seed Amelie Mauresmo in Thursday's semi-finals and she remains defiant.    Asked how she would react if asked to tone down her behaviour, the 19-year-old replied: "I wouldn't change a thing."
