BSF jawan killed in BDR firing

A 26-year-old BSF jawan was shot dead by the Bangladesh Rifles at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas late on Monday evening, according to BSF sources.

BASIRHAT: A 26-year-old BSF jawan was shot dead by the Bangladesh Rifles at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas late on Monday evening, according to BSF sources.

 

The victim along with others was on patrolling duty along the international border in the river Ichhamati, when the BDR opened fire, leaving him serously injured on the speed boat. Soon after the incident BSF retaliated.

 

The victim was immediately rushed to the Basirhat Sub-Divisioinal Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to BSF sources.

 

Bangladesh Rifles across the border fired at least 20 rounds while the BSF retaliated with about 15 rounds. Tension prevailed in the area, BSF and Police source said.
