SRINAGAR: A court of chief judicial magistrate on Monday issued warrants against a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Border Security Forces (BSF) and a former government advocate involved in the Jammu and Kashmir sex scandal.
The warrants were issued shortly after Supreme Court declined to accept the anticipatory bail application of the BSF DIG who is now posted in northeast. He was earlier posted in south Kashmir.
Sources said the BSF officer and senior advocate had failed to appear for the identification parade before the 15-year-old victim, Mehreen. On Sunday the CBI arrested Mohammad Ashraf Mir, deputy superintendent of police (DSP). The apex court on Monday also rejected his bail plea, reports said.
The CBI is under pressure from the J&K high court for not speeding up the investigation process. In the last hearing, the division bench of the high court asked the CBI counsel, SA Naik, to ensure the personal appearance of the CBI director in court on June 6, which is the next hearing date.
Following the court’s strictures, the CBI went into offensive mode and arrested Mir. Sources said the identification parade of some officers has been conducted also.
The sex scandal surfaced after police recovered a CD containing pornographic clips of a 15-year-old girl. During questioning, she named several high profile politicians, police and security force officials. She also told the police that she was filmed naked and then forced into prostitution. As a result, police arrested Sabina the kingpin. Several other people, including surrendered ultras, were also arrested in the case.
Alarmed by the reports, the J&K high court took suo moto cognisance of the case. Kashmir Bar Association also filed a PIL demanding action against the people involved in the sex scandal.
