NEW DELHI: President Kalam returning the controversial Office of Profit Bill to Parliament for reconsideration came as an unexpected gift to the opposition BJP.

It lapped up the issue with joy and let loose all its top guns blazing with the hope that the controversy might trigger upheavals in national politics.

The BJP is hoping that the Presidential move will yet again rake up the controversy of Congress President Sonia Gandhi holding a post of Office of Profit.

Though Sonia has been re-elected as an MP, a group of senior Opposition NDA leaders led by Leader of Opposition LK Advani met the Election Commission urging speedy disposal of pending cases on Office of Profit as one of the grounds on which the President retuned the bill referred to it.

Advani said, “While one member (Jaya Bachchan) is disqualified retrospectively, can another member (Sonia Gandhi) similarly placed escape disqualification either by resigning or being protected by the efflux of time till a corrective law is promulgated? As per the Constitution every one is equal in the eyes of law, so similar standards should be applied for another member.”
