CHENNAI: The lull after the election storm in Tamil Nadu was broken on Tuesday with the Tamil Nadu police registering a first information report (FIR) against Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S Ramadoss and his son and Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss for allegedly instigating the murder of an AIADMK worker on Monday night.
According to the police, a group of PMK activists attacked AIADMK workers who were standing in front of education minister C V Shanmugham’s house in Tindivanam with knives, beer bottles and cricket bats.
Muruganandam, an AIADMK worker who crossed over from the PMK recently was killed in the attack. Ramadoss and Anbumani have been charged with criminal conspiracy under Section 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
While Ramadoss’s son-in-law Parasuraman and PMK candidate for Tindivanam Karunanidhi have also been charged under the same sections, a few others have been charged with murder (IPC 302).
Ramadoss, in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, termed it an act of political vendetta. “The minister (Shanmugham) and his leader J Jayalalithaa are using the police to settle political scores. Fearing defeat in the elections, the AIADMK is resorting to political vendetta,” Ramadoss said.
What came as a surprise to Ramadoss, however, was the Sun TV and its sister tabloid Tamil Murasu playing up the case, when PMK is a major ally of the DMK.
Though the Tamil Murasu story included PMK’s charges of political vendetta, Ramadoss is not amused. “This is not the way the alliance leader should be treating us, especially when the probability of a coalition government looks bright,” a PMK insider told DNA.
