Workers from 100 cos come out in support of Bajaj stir in Pune

They have threatened indefinite strike from Thursday

The ongoing strike at the Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL)’s Chakan plant on Sunday received support from workers’ unions of more than 100 companies in the industrial belt of Chakan and Pimpri-Chinchwad. They have threatened to join the indefinite strike from Thursday. .

Labour union representatives of more than 120 industries had gathered at a special meeting to express their solidarity with the striking Bajaj Auto workers on Sunday. 

Representatives from unions of companies like Thermax Ltd, Sandvik Asia Ltd, Alfa Laval Suzlon Generators, Hyundai Bharat Forge and others had come together at the meeting to support the BAL workers’ strike. 

Local Shiv Sena leader Adhalrao Shivajirao Patil also extended his support to the union. He was present at the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Dilip Pawar, president of BAL’s official union Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Sangathana (VKKS), said it was decided that all unions would be sending notices of indefinite work stoppage from Thursday and also go for a massive demonstration outside the office of the additional labour commissioner in Pune.

Maruti Jagdale, consultant of Shramik Ekta Mahasangh, a consortium of labour unions of the area stated, “We will put locks on the office of the labour commissioner on Thursday, if they do not intervene in a proper manner by Wednesday. The individual unions have started sending out notices of work stoppage to their respective managements. We have stated that we do not have any difference of opinion with them, but in solidarity with the Bajaj workers we will be going for work stoppage.”

The workers asked the police to withdraw the “false” cases being registered against the workers else they threatened to go on a jail bharo andolan from Thursday.

Shiv Sena MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil stated that he is with the union and hopes justice is given to them. Patil said, “I would be leading the morcha to the labour commissioner’s office on Thursday.”

The production at the Chakan plant of BAL has stopped from June 26 with workers demanding a new wage agreement and allotment of shares of the company and other benefits. It was the 12th day of the BAL indefinite strike.
