Weather makes rescue dogs sick, sent home

Not only for humans, it is proving to be a huge struggle for animals as well to survive the strenuous weather conditions of Malin village. Continuous showers and damp weather have made two of the rescue dogs fall sick.
Six dogs were brought from the Five Battalion NDRF headquarters in Sudumbare, Pune to aid the rescue operations. But unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions, two of them had to be sent back within a day.
Commander Shivajirao Bhanre informed, "We have got a specialised team of dogs to help the NDRF in the rescue operations as we have to take their help in finding the buried bodies. But as it's been raining hard for the past two days, we had to send two of our dogs back to the headquarters as they fell sick due to the rains and highly unclean conditions. But for the rest of the dogs, we have been taking good care of them now as we have vacated a room of the school for them. We are also feeding them only with pedigree food three times a day."
At least 87 big cattle and 89 goats are reported lost in the disaster.
According to Dr Atul Chikhle, livestock development officer, panchayat samittee, Ambegaon, a total of 87 big animals like cows and buffaloes are lost while 89 goats have also gone missing after the landslide. "We could give the exact figure as only a few days back, i.e., on July 19, we had conducted a pre-monsoon vaccination drive. We are hopeful that a few animals might be alive as it was early morning at the time of the landslide and that is the time when most animals go to nearby hills for grazing."
Dr Chikhle also informed that the work of the veterinary doctors will start only after the rescue operations end. He also assured that there won't be any epidemic or communicative disease merely because of the dead carcasses.
