Pune: It's been over a week and the new app launched by the traffic police is a hit across the country and an average of 1,000 persons are downloading the app each day. The app is currently ranked at the fifth position in the country in the Google transportation index category.

The app since its launch on July 9 has been downloaded as many as 9,000 times by residents from Pune, Mumbai and Pimpri Chinchwad areas. Deputy commissioner (traffic ) Vishwas Pandhare said that the maximum number of downloads (75 %) were reported from Pune followed by Mumbai (15 %) and Pimpri Chinchwad (10 %) respectively.

Pandhare further said that post the launch, the traffic department received as many as 400 feedback-related emails and they all had been answered. Most of the suggestions are related to uploading details related to PMPML bus timings and their routes, names and numbers of all the police officials posted at the police stations right from police inspectors to a police sub inspector (PSI). A few reviews have suggested the police carry out corrections in the wrongly fed telephone number of essential services on the app.

The new application platform can help a citizen take pictures of traffic violators, get alerts on traffic jams, complain against errant autorickshaws and even get instant updates on traffic jams during emergencies. The app also provides the user an opportunity to suggest an idea, give feedback and even register a complaint.

The app is connected to a GPS-enabled server that can provide the co-ordinates of a stolen two or four wheeler and even guide a commuter for navigation. Named as Traffic and Road Safety Solution, it took three months for the traffic department along with the two private sector companies—Harcastle GIS Solutions Pvt Ltd and Turn Here to develop the application to its complete fluency.
