Special police team to make Pune's Hinjewadi area safer

Eight police stations come together to form four-member squads to conduct night patrolling in the industrial area

Taking cognizance of increasing number of night robberies in Hinjewadi industrial area and other parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad areas, eight police stations have come together to form a special team at the police station level to curb such incidents.

The special team will be headed by a sub-inspector ranked officer and will have four staffers.
Speaking to dna, assistant commissioner of police Shivaji Shelar said, “Considering the increasing number of night robberies, we have asked police stations to form a special team. They would conduct intensive day and night patrolling in their police station jurisdictions.”
The special team and beat marshals have been instructed to intensify night patrolling in Hinjewadi from 9 pm to 12 am. The patrolling will be monitored by assistant commissioner police (ACP) ranked officer.

Speaking to dna, ACP Smeeta Patil (Chatuhshrungi division) said, “Hinjewadi industrial area is a crucial area as it is targeted by the robbers. They use the Mumbai-Bangalore highway as the escape route. Hence, we have asked the team to intensify patrolling on the highway.”

After dna’s report on the spate of night robberies in Hinjewadi area, Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol has ordered the officers to take a fresh review of Hinjewadi area.

Baramati MP Supriya Sule is also going to discuss this issue with deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Most of these incidents are mainly reported on weekends when people come to hotels situated on the highway. The robbers follow the victim on bikes and catch up with him in isolated area. They halt the victim, brandish knives or pistols and relieve the victim of his valuables.

Robbers steal gold chain worth Rs1.35 lakh

Even after Baramati MP Supriya Sule assured better security arrangements in Hinjewadi area, the spate of night robberies continue. In yet another case of night robbery, two unidentified persons on motorcycle snatched gold chain from a 32-year-old woman in Wakad on Saturday night.
Asha Prakash Kalamkar lodged a complaint against two unidentified persons for allegedly snatching her gold chain worth Rs1.35 lakh in Kalamkar Wasti on Wakad Road.

The incident took place when Kalamkar was going home with her son after visiting a dentist in the area.

Speaking to dna, police sub inspector SB Sangade of Hinjewadi police station said, “Kalamkar had gone to attend marriage ceremony of her relatives in Ravet. After returning home, she came to know that her son is not well. Following which, she took him to the dentist. While returning home, two unidentified persons who were waiting at a temple in the area, snatched her gold chain and disappeared.”

After the incident, the Hinjewadi police visited the spot. Sangade said, “We have recorded statements of eyewitnesses who had seen the motorcyclists in the area. Accordingly, we are preparing sketches of the snatchers. As of now, we have not got any clue in the case. Our investigations are on.”
