More than a year after undergoing a Caesarean operation at Pune's Noble Hospital, an Ahmednagar based womanhas alleged medical negligence claiming that the doctors left behind a surgical mop in her abdomen and didn't attend to her subsequent complaints of pain. The woman claimed that she learnt about the folly within six months and had undergone an operation in another hospital where she claimed doctors removed her ovaries besides cutting off her fallopian tube.
However Noble Hospital administration claimed that the woman is making false claims to extort money and the hospital had even complained to the police about four months ago regarding the alleged extortion.
Meanwhile complainant Anjali Tandule had undergone a caesarian on April 2013, after which she was sent home in five days."I had pain in lower abdominal area but for three weeks, doctors at Noble hospital treated me with some pain killers. I then consulted a doctor in Ahmednagar, where she was informed that a surgical mop was in her abdomen region. I got operated but since the infection had spread, my ovaries and fallopian tubes were removed. The doctors at Noble hospital didn't show any concern and finally I have given my application to police besides sending them a court notice."
While Tandule claims medical negligence on the hospital's part, the hospital authorities deny any such negligence or ignorance on their side.
"The baby and the mother were healthy when they got discharged. There was no reason of any pain. She tried to extort money from us and we had filed a case against Tandule four months ago for creating false reputation of the hospital and extortion of money," said Dr Mangesh Lingayat, medical superitendent.
