The school management of Raghavdas Vidyalaya at Warje-Malwadi has accepted the fault of the teacher who punished two Std V boys by parading them in all the classrooms with bindis on their foreheads and telling them to wear sarees to school the next day. The management promised strict action against the teacher. However, the school is yet to take action against other teachers who witnessed the parade and did not raise any objection.

On Friday, the teacher, Neha Gaur, punished the two boys who were involved in some mischief, in a way that outraged them.

Parents of both students and other parents on Saturday stormed into the school and sought  action against the erring teacher.

“On the particular day when the incident took place, I was not at the school. But in the evening I came to know about it and decided to reprimand the teacher the next day,” said principal Snehal Chaoji of Raghavdas Vidyalaya.

She said one of the children is notorious and on several occasions his parents have been notified and asked to look after him and do proper parenting.

“The particular teacher too did this out of frustration as the boy was scribbling on his forehead with a pen and also doing the same to the other child, which was dangerous as the pen might have hurt their eyes,” she said, adding, “However, whatever she did was wrong and unacceptable. The school management will take proper action against her.”

The parents alleged that the other school officials and teachers witnessed the parade, but did not raise any objection. Chaoji said they have set up an inquiry into this and whoever is found guilty will be punished.

She added that when any teacher joins the school, he or she has to sign a code of conduct and follow certain dos and dont’s. With the advent of Right to Education Act, it has become difficult for teachers to impart discipline among students and it is also the responsibility of parents to do proper parenting, she said.

One of the parents, Kailas Patil, told dna, “My son was not ready to go to school after the issue was raked up. However, I convinced him to go to school by telling him that nothing will happen in school.”
