Pune: Now, even travelling in a tourist bus on Pune-Mumbai Expressway is not safe. A passenger of a tourist bus lost Rs18.65 lakh while travelling to Mumbai from Ahmednagar on June 19.
The incident came to light when 19-year-old Jatin Sunilbhai Darji found out that the bag he was carrying with him had disappeared. Darji realised it around 4.30am when the bus reached Urse toll naka on the Expressway. Darji later lodged a complaint with Shivajinagar police station against unidentified persons.

Sub-inspector Narayan Palampale, who is investigating the case, said, “Darji is a college student and his father runs a courier company in Ahmednagar. It’s Darji’s father who collects the business money and travel to Mumbai to deposit the money in a bank. However, on June 16, when the complainant’s father got stuck in some conference at Jalgoan, he had asked Darji to travel to Mumbai with the money.” Darji boarded a sleeper-coach bus in Ahmednagar on June 18 night. He had kept the cash in a black-colour bag. Around 1am, the bus had halted at Shivajinagar bus stand for refreshments. But the complainant had gone to sleep using the bag as a pillow to sleep. It was only at Urse toll naka that he realised that the bag and his mobile handset were missing. Darji immediately asked the driver to halt but could not find the bag. Some passengers had got down before Urse toll naka and also at Shivajinagar. He proceeded toward Mumbai but he approached Shivajinagar police on Monday and registered a complaint.

“It has been assumed that the incident might have taken place between Shivajinagar and Urse toll naka, which comes under Talegaon Dhabhade police station of Pune rural police.
