In a shocking incident, unidentified men brutally murdered a 75-year-old woman living in Garphata village near Patas in Daund taluka, and left her daughter-in-law seriously injured. The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The Pune rural police said the attack was quite brutal and took place when the victims were alone and asleep in their home. The deceased woman has been identified as Dagdabai Ganpat Lonkar (75) and her daughter-in-law Nazuka Devidas Bhagwat (30). Nazuka’s husband had gone to a nearby village for some work.

Speaking to dna, assistant police inspector Shashikant Chavan of Yavat police station said, “A group of six persons armed with sharp edged weapons had targeted the entire village in the wee hours of Wednesday. They stole goats and utensils from other houses. At around 3.30am, they came to Lonkar’s house and managed to barge in. They assaulted Dagdabai and Nazuka with sharp weapons and stole the utensils from the house and left the area. Dagdabai died on the spot while Nazuka was found lying in a pool of blood.”

The incident came to light when Nazuka regained consciousness and raised an alarm. Following which, the villagers rushed to the house and shifted Nazuka and Dagdabai to a private hospital. “Nazuka is out of danger now,” Chavan added.

Nazuka’s husband is a farmer and also runs a catering business. Police suspect that the dacoits might have parked their motorcycles away from the village. The police have not noticed any tyre marks near the house where the women were attacked.
The rural police suspect that the gang must be of Pardhi tribe. “Considering the modus operandi of such gangs, we suspect the involvement of Pardhis. We have formed six teams to trace out the dacoits. Currently, we have registered a murder case against unidentified persons.”
