Senior inspector (planning) RS Kamire of the traffic branch has been the key person behind the three month effort taken of city branch in association with two software companies to deliver versatile ‘Traffic and Road Safety Solution ‘ App, spoke to Nadeem Inamdar
What is the objective of the traffic branch for launching the app?
The citizens can now get all the traffic related information in real time on their fingertips. The traffic department launched the android based mobile based application for the first time in state which is aimed at making the citizens aware of the current traffic scenario and help them navigate better during the peak hours and also during emergencies.
With the help of the this new application , one can take picture of the traffic violators, get real time traffic updates, lodged cases against errant auto rickshaw and cab drivers and avail the facility of the nearest helpline number during emergency and also give your opinion about the application. We have been helped by hard castle GIS solution helped in developing the software while the designing has been done by the Turn Here design house.
What do you expect from the citizen post launch of the app?
Our main objective is to provide adequate information related to traffic provide better service to the citizens as they can check anything and everything related to traffic in the city. Besides this we citizens can feedback which will help us to improve the traffic situation in the area. The app is linked to google map with the help which citizens can get real time traffic update and during the case of traffic snarsl they will be provided with the alternative routes. The traffic diversions will be update on the app and those who have the app in their mobile phone will get notification about it.
What about the previous intiatives like Traffic-i-cop and SMS facility ?
The present app is an alternative application for traffic-i-cop, under the name of traffic road safety solution which will be connected to database of the sate. We can cull the record of a particular vehicle with the vehicle registration number and trace the offence that is been registered against the same. If the vehicle is reported to be stolen or is involved in any kind of criminal activity we can trace the accused with the app . Similarly we can find out data of an individual with the help of the license number that is unique for everyone.
Can you elaborate the application in detail?
One can with thehelp of the QR code scan and download the application
on your android phone (if you do not have QR code scanner then download it from Google. If you are using apple I-phone then you can download the QR code after seven days. The benefits of the application range from providing real time traffic update on the mobile, finding out the nearest police station or hospital, finding out auto fares, finding out details of towed away vehicles and charges levied for each of the traffic offences.
