Pune : From the beginning of April month, Puneites were started feeling the heat of summer with temperature rising above 39 degrees, however, Tuesday brought some relief from scorching heat and some parts of city including Pashan, Bavdhan and Kothrud witnessed rain in the morning.

While these areas witnessed rain, rest of the city had a cloud cover for most part of the day due to which the maximum temperature of the city was reduced by nearly two degrees. On Monday, city had recorded 38.5 degree Celsius while on Tuesday; city's maximum temperature was 36 degrees Celsius.

The state has been witnessing lot of fluctuation from the beginning of this summer season. First it was the month of March where most parts of the state had witnessed hailstorm and untimely rain for nearly two weeks. Following the rain, temperature in some parts had also dropped. Now recently, temperature was started increasing and only couple of days back, it had crossed 39 degree Celsius. When the heat had started building up, some parts of the city witnessed few showers.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the rainfall activity during this part of summer is called April rain. “We have recorded few spells of rain in some parts of the city. Though the rainfall recorded in the city is not that significant, the city was under cloud cover. The rainfall during summer is witnessed due to the hot weather and it is called as April rain."

“As the temperature starts rising, land heating process starts which takes the moisture to the upper level. The upper level of the atmosphere is cooler compare to lower level and the cooler atmosphere helps in formation of clouds of the present moisture. These formations usually take place in parts of central India and we witness rainfall at isolated places," IMD officials said.

Predicting the forecast for the city for next couple days, IMD officials said, “Parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to record rainfall in next couple of days and the maximum temperature for Pune city will be around 37 degree Celsius."
