While the cops and the local administration have failed to install CCTV cameras in the city despite the terror threat that looms large, here is one school from the city which has kept an ideal in front of everybody.
The Pune Vidyarthi Griha's (PVG) Maharashtra Vidyalaya has installed over 50 cameras inside the classrooms and on the school premises to take care of the disciplinary and security issues of students which is the major concern for parents after series of incidents of sexual abuse cases of students.

The school claims that since the 'third eyes' have been installed inside the classrooms and on the premises the theft incidents, eve teasing and outside youths menace have been drastically reduced.
"Even the issue of students bunking the school and roaming around the city, has also been sorted out as when parents come to inquire about their children, we show them the CCTV footage of the days when the students bunk the classes," said Deepak Wagh, the Principal of the school.

While talking to dna, he said that till last year, there were several issues on the campus and the main concerns were the security of the students, disciplinary issues, dereliction to the duty on the part of school staff and to sot these issues, the school management decided to install high resolution cameras inside the classrooms and premises.

He added that along with the CCTV cameras installed, the school also decided to install speaker system so that along with the screening of the CCTV recording of all the classrooms, the principal even can speak to the students and teachers sitting at his cabin.

"There could be schools in the city, who might have installed the cameras on their premises, but in our school, along with the CCTV cameras, we have speaker system so that instant announcement can be made during the school hours," he said.

The school authorities said that the installation of the cameras have facilitated the monitoring of both students and teachers and enables schools to resolve problems faster.

"Such cameras, they said, would also strengthen "self-censorship" among students and school staff, as they know that their actions are being monitored." Cameras would also contribute to the reduction of vandalism to school property, equipment and even vehicles.

Gopal Patil, who installed the entire system in the school and in-charge of maintenance, said that the entire control has been given to Principal as he can monitor the classes while seating at the cabin and even speak to particular class if found some student creating nuisance.

He added that even the digital video recorder (DVR) has the capacity to keep the storage for more than one month.
