Nikhil Goswami is one among the 15 choreographers selected from across the world for ‘The Choreographer Canvas’ – an annual event held in New York City and Nashville featuring the work of these cutting edge choreographers.

The selected ones get to perform at the event with their original and traditional dance styles including jazz, hip hop, salsa and others. A panel of ‘Group Theatre Too’, a New York theatre collective with professional dancers, selects the choreographers annually through applications.

Pune-based Nikhil will perform on the theme 'Ganesh Chaturthi festival' at the event, on April 26 this year. Speaking to iamin, Nikhil said, "Born and brought up in Pune, I have been attracted to the energy that the Ganesh festival brings with it. My choreography for this theme would be a blend of Indian semi-classical, Indian folk and contemporary styles. I want to use Indian dance and create a fusion which has never been done before," he said.

The only one to be selected from India, he is currently pursuing a six-month certificate course from the Broadway Dance Centre in New York and trying to promote Indian dance forms in the USA. An engineering graduate from Smt Kashibai Navale College of Engineering in Pune, Nikhil pursued his dancing along with his studies and after graduating in 2013, became an instructor at the Xternal Dance Academy, Pune for hip-hop and Indian Fusion, winning various competitions with the Xternal Dance Force crew.
