Parking or no-parking for 2-wheelers on FC Rd It's you who has to decide

Traffic dept implements ban on right side of 600-metre stretch; decision to continue after feedback from citizens

If you frequently ply on the Fergusson College Road, the parking issue on it must have affected you by one way or the other at some point of time. Some of you might feel that the stranded vehicles on the sides of the road add to the traffic congestion, while some might feel that it helps to park your vehicles while you dine at some restaurant or shop at some store on this road.

Now you have been given the privilege to decide whether the right side of the 600-metre stretch from Goodluck Chowk to Step-in restaurant should be made a ‘no-parking’ zone or should be left the way it currently is.

The Pune traffic police implemented the rule on Tuesday. The decision has been taken in the wake of the recent terror threats and the Jungli Maharaj Road blasts which shook the city last year.
However, the decision to continue with the stance will be taken following the suggestions and objections of the citizens. They can file their say till August 29.

Though with the new rule, the road was less congested on Tuesday, hoteliers and some commuters were not happy with it. While the hoteliers feel that it will affect their business, commuters were irked by as the new policy they had a tough time searching for a parking space.

From cops’ mouth
Due to the recent terror threats on FC Road, the traffic police department has taken the decision of making the area a no-parking zone. This will also curb the traffic congestion in the area. Besides, pedestrians will get space to walk — Neelam Jadhav, inspector, Deccan traffic division

Due to security reasons, we have made this area a ‘no-parking’ zone. Citizens should develop the habit of walking as they will have to park their vehicles 200 metres away from the shopping area — Vishwas Pandhare, DCP (traffic)

Business affected
Due to the new rule, I lost 30 per cent of my business on the first day. The business will further decrease in the coming days as people do not prefer to walk down till my restaurant — Kulti Shetty, manager,  Roopali restaurant

Citizens irked
I have been visiting  Roopali restaurant for the past 15 years. There is no space to park our vehicles here. The traffic department should think of alternative parking space in the area. It will be tough for senior citizens like us to walk all the way
