Pune: The Panshet flood-affected citizens residing in various colonies in different parts of the city will soon get their own homes since the government decided to regularise extra-construction of houses of flood-affected residents, who have extended their houses before 1995.

The decision taken at the meeting called by revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat would provide relief to a few thousand Panshet flood-affected families. MLC Mohan Joshi, the committee of the Panshet flood-affected people Mangesh Kharade, district collector Saurabh Rao were present at the meeting.

Joshi and Kharade said that there were a few thousand residents staying at the many colonies like Shivdarshan, Janawadi Gokhale Nagar, Yervada, Parvati Darshan, Dattawadi, which were established after the Panshet floods. These people were provided small houses of 120, 200 and 350 square feet at various transit camps. All these areas were on the outskirts and eventually with the expansion of the city they have become part of city limits and with the prices of land phenomenally rising, the flood-affected were pressing to gain ownership rights to the houses.

MLC Joshi said that he has succeeded in giving the right to flood-affected with this decision and a few thousand of them would be having their own houses without any part of their house facing any action for being referred to as unauthorised. He said that the unauthorized construction which has been done before 1995 would be regularised by charging fine as per the rules.
