When we talk about a confession page on Facebook, a page filled with people venting their thoughts topics ranging from love to feminism, people seeking solace after a breakup or perhaps writing unnamed testimonials for friends, comes to mind.

But Pune Confessions page has surpassed the cliches and is using the platform to educate masses about the daily happenings in the city and discuss issues like women safety, traffic woes, bribery culture and politics.

The admin of the group Amitesh Singh, a 3rd year student of MIT College, said that in two years, the page has garnered 16,630 likes and become the biggest confession page in India representing a city, surpassing Chennai Confessions. Singh wants it to become the Facebook Radio of the city in the coming years.

“What differentiates me from other group admins is that I go through each and every confession that is sent to me, and post only those that are inspirational, motivational and educative. There is no room for derogatory messages on this group,” he said.

Members of the group also use this platform to share their personal experiences. Using this attribute of the group to his advantage ,Singh wishes to start an initiative called Facebook radio, where in he could discuss relevant issues that are affecting city dwellers at large.

“Once an anonymous confessor gets in touch with with me regarding an incident where a traffic cop had tried to extract bribe from him. I advised him to send me the name of the cop, which I would have posted on the FB page. This would have turned into a movement, had the confessor not retracted at the last moment,” he said, adding that through this radio initiative, he wishes to deal with such issues that affect one and all.

He said that he wants to connect the city by letting people about the daily happenings in the city as well as in the world.

“There are many youths who do not read newspapers, do not see news channels but are always on Facebook and Twitter. I through the page try and put daily happenings and keep them updated,” he said.

The page is also instrumental in spreading awareness about ragging, sexual harassment in colleges, eve teasing and the women safety.
