MSRTC suspends 28 drivers in two years

In order to make roads more safe for citizens, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has suspended 28 state transport (ST) bus drivers who were responsible for 28 fatal accidents in the past two years.

The suspended drivers are allowed to drive buses until the completion of investigation, MSRTC officials claim that they are striving hard to bring down the number of mishaps this year.

MSRTC divisional controller Shailesh Chavan said, “We have a stringent rule. Whenever any accident takes place, we suspend the driver immediately and if he is held responsible for the accident then we dismiss him from the service.”

According to Chavan, bus drivers are given refresher course every three months. A special training programme is also organised at the automated accident testing track for accident-prone drivers.
