Pune: Get ready for the rains as the monsoon is likely to cover Pune and its surrounding areas on Monday, predicted the experts of India
Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon arrived in Mumbai and parts of central Maharashtra on Sunday. According to the
experts, it is likely to cover the entire state in the next two to three days.
It was in the last week that southwest monsoon had arrived in the coastal areas of Konkan but due to the effect of Nanauk cyclone the conditions were not favoring its advancement. However, IMD experts on Sunday stated that there is no more effect of the cyclone and the monsoon further advanced in some more parts of the state. On Sunday, the monsoon advanced into Mumbai, parts of central Maharashtra up to Sangli, Karnataka, parts of Gujarat and coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.
“The conditions are favorable for the further advancement and within 24 hours the monsoon will cover Pune and its surrounding areas. Within the next two to three days, it will cover entire Maharashtra and Gujarat,” said an expert.
Though the monsoon will cover the state, IMD experts have stated that it will still be in a weak state.
“Though the monsoon will cover the state, the rainfall activity is likely to be moderate. Due to the El Nino effect and other local factors, the monsoon is still in a weak state. In the next 24 to 48 hours, there will be moderate rainfall in and around Pune and parts of central Maharashtra,” said the experts
