Alleging gross callousness on part of the district administration resulting in death of a mother and daughter after car drowning, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Friday demanded immediate suspension of district collector Vikas Deshmukh.

MNS general secretary Anil Shidore has also demanded suspension of Bhor Tehsildar for ignoring the letter by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) project director, pointing out the possibility of mishap near the Katraj tunnel.

The NHAI had undertaken the six laning work at the Pune-Satara section of NH4 under the National Highway Development Program. Shidore while addressing a press conference said, “NHAI officials had clearly cautioned against the possibility of a mishap in his letters to Bhor Tehsildar dated April 25, 2011 and to district collector on July 15, 2011.”

MNS has claimed that after the unauthorised cutting of hills which encroached upon natural water flow and due to apathy on the part of administration for taking due precautions, the car was swept away near the Katraj tunnel and a mother along with her one-and-half-year-old daughter had died on June 6, 2013.

Shidore said, “Unless the collector Vikas Deshmukh and Bhor Tehsildar are removed, the inquiry against them cannot be impartial.”

RR assures action

The home minister R R Patil has assured to take action against all those responsible for the death of the mother and daughter due to drowning. Shiv Sena has also demanded action against revenue officials for shielding builder Kisan Rathod despite repeated violations on his part. Spokesperson Neelam Gorhe has blamed the revenue machinery for not taking stern action against Rathod despite repeatedly resorting to cutting the hills and undertaking constructions on the hills, resulting in this incident.
