In a shocking incident, a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus driver, who was in an inebriated condition, went on a wild race on the busy roads in Pune railway station area and Mumbai-Pune highway during the peak hours on Monday evening. No mishap was reported in the horrible drive.
The incident brought back memories of the spine-chilling ride of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus driver Santosh Mane on the busy city roads on January 25 this year.
The high drama unfolded over a span of half an hour on busy roads, including Sanjay Gandhi Road outside Pune railway station, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and old Mumbai-Pune highway.
The drunken driver, Dattatreya Manohar Parab (41), was caught by the police who managed to intercept the bus with the help of two two-wheeler riders at Bopodi Chowk following a chase.
The police said that Parab of Bijlinagar in Chinchwad was dismissed from the services of PMPML three years ago for driving in inebriated conditions. He was recruited by the transport utility again on contract basis a few months ago.
Parab had been assigned to drive the bus on Nigdi-Yerawada-Station route on Monday. However, when the bus reached Pune railway station, Parab drove on instead of halting.l
