Even as Pune recorded 70.9 mm rainfall on Wednesday and 714.5 mm since June 1, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the city will receive occasional showers in the next 48 hours.

IMD senior scientist SB Gaonkar said, “The current progress of monsoon is because of convection activity and the city will receive frequent spells of rain with the probability between 51% and 75% within the 24-48 hours.”

The Khadakwasla system, including Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams, that provides water to the city was filled to 100% capacity and 4,280 cusecs of water was released from Khadakwasla dam on Thursday. The catchment areas also received heavy rainfall on Wednesday; The rainfall recorded on Thursday at Khadakwasla was 62 mm, Panshet 51 mm, Varasgaon 45 mm and Temghar 32 mm.
