Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) will be operational in two months:CIRT

Plans to extend extensive training tracks to heavy vehicle drivers to reduce road accidents

Starting May, those driving heavy vehicles can opt for a scientific driving training in Pune. With an aim to bring down number of road accident, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued guidelines to the entire state to build an institute of Driving Training and Research for heavy vehicle drivers .

Pune-based Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) is in the process of creating a track where drivers will be trained to drive in different terrains and it is expected to be functional by the month of May. With more than 80 percent work complete, the CIRT officials are positive that new testing track will help to reduce the number of road accident.

CIRT director Abhay Damle said, "The drivers will be taught driving skills on various surface such as two lane straight roads, hump roads, three point turn, S shape road, driving on four and six lane highway, driving on hill track.The drivers will also be trained about driving in hazardous environment."

Damle adds, "The entire test will take only 10 minutes. With the help of automated testing machines, we will be able to generate real time result. If the driver of the vehicle fails to clear the test we will be sending the report to the concerned company."

He further stated, "We will be starting a three-months driving test, where the drivers will be taught about various aspects about safe and economical driving in various conditions. We will be giving training about the road sign language of different states as the language in each state is different."

CIRT is also planning to extend these tests to the motor driving school trainers and women drivers. Moreover, citizens who want re-evaluate their driving skills can take the driving test by paying a minimal fee.

Damle ends by saying, "We will be providing entrepreneurship to woman drivers, as there are so many countries where women drive taxis, however we hardly find any in India. Therefore we will not be giving them training, but providing jobs to those who are financially weak, so that they can have a better life."
