Pune: There was fasting, prayers and sermons observed in the evening mass of Good Friday yesterday, there are just two more days left for the Holy Week to come to an end. Today is the Holy Saturday where every church would be offering prayers to Mother Mary in the noon.
"The Easter vigil service and Easter prayers start on Holy Saturday itself where worshippers can attend the Easter service after 6 pm in every church. There will be a short sermon followed by hymns for the Lord till midnight," said Father Wilfred of Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
The city is going to experience a festive atmosphere on Easter Sunday with every church decorated with colourful lights and flowers. There will be regular masses in churches on Sunday, celebrating the new life of Jesus Christ right from 7 am to late in the afternoon. Churches will also conduct a special sermon at 6 pm.
"There will be services conducted with a special theme on Easter spreading the message of new life, peace, hope and commitment. This day is special also because the priest will bless the holy water and the parishioners will be given bottles of holy water to take home at the end of the mass," said Bishop of Poona, Rt Rev Thomas Dabre. The church would be open all day on Sunday where people can come and pray, attend sermons and cherish the new life given by Jesus Christ.
"Apart from the church services, every family will celebrate Easter Sunday at their homes, distribute Easter eggs and cook other Easter special delicacies for dinner," said 23-year-old Amanda Alphonso who resides in Wanowrie.
