PUNE: Ill preparedness of civic body was exposed by the heavy rain on Thursday as the water had entered into the residential areas of upmarket housing societies in Bavdhan, Aundh and Sinhgad road where the people had to find way through knee high water.
After Khadakwasala dam was filled to its capacity after which 2,700 cusecs water was released from the dam on Thursday morning after which the Baba Bhide bridge was submerged under the water. On Friday, the water level had reduced but the dirt that the water had brought had got stuck at the bridge. The civic administration had to deploy JCB at the bridge to clear the bridge.
Before that the areas of Bavdhan, Sinhgad road and Aundh had to face lot of inconvenience as the areas were filled with knee level water.
According to the local residents of Bavdhan, the nearby nullah was not cleared properly due to which the water entered into the areas of Bavdhan Khurd. The residents had to break the walls of the residential areas and made way for water. Dinesh Unavane, one of the residents of Bavdhan area said, " There was heavy rain through out the night from Wednesday and when we stepped out of the house on Thursday, we saw water everywhere. The water was at the knee high and we had lot of problems in finding way through dirty water."
It was the similar situation at Aundh and Sinhgad road where the water had entered into the residential complexes. According to the fire brigade officials, " We got four to five calls from Aundh, Sinhgad road and Yerwada. Though the situation was not critical, people were scared."
