The news of Jawan Kundalik Kerba Mane’s death has affected the family deeply. The martyr’s near and dear ones have gone into mourning with two family members having to be admitted to a local hospital. After receiving the phone call about Kundalik’s death, his brother went into a state of shock.

“He threw his cellphone down and started crying loudly,” said a villager. Unable to muster the courage to tell Mane’s wife that he had passed away, the brother instead told her that Mane had sustained several injuries after being shot by a bullet.

The news affected Mane’s wife and brother so badly that their blood pressure dropped and they had to be rushed to a local hospital for treatment. They were given intravenous fluids.

District medical officer Dr PS Pujari said, “Mane’s brother and his wife have low blood pressure due to which they have been put on saline. However, on Wednesday night, both of them were able to have food orally.”

As Mane’s body arrived in Pune on Wednesday night and was en route to Kolhapur, the family then told his wife about his demise. Residents of the village have cleaned up an open ground of the village where they will keep Mane’s body for the last rites.
Jawan Kundalik of Kolhapur district is one of the five martyrs killed in the ambush in Poonch on Monday.

Post-retirement, Mane wanted to buy a school bus

Jawan Kundalik Kerba Mane (36) of Kolhapur district, one of the five martyrs killed in the ambush in Poonch on Monday, had a wish to purchase a school bus to help children living in his native village at Pimplegaon Budruk to travel to bigger schools in nearby villages and get better education.

During his last visit for a month in May this year, he was shocked to see the condition of school in his village. He decided to purchase a school bus enabling kids to travel to other villages.
Pimplegaon Budruk sarpanch Pradeep Patil said, “Mane was down to earth and never showed any kind of attitude that he is an army man. He discussed his dream of purchasing a school bus with me.”

Patil said, “Mane joined the defence because of his family’s poor financial condition. He was aware about the importance of good education. Everyone in the village liked and adored him for his simplicity. He used to meet villagers with love and affection.”

The mood in the village is sombre with villagers expressing their anger against Pakistan. On Wednesday, they burned an effigy of Pakistan demanding that the Indian government should take action now.

The villagers have closed the door for outsiders such as media persons and politicians as they do want the family members to be disturbed. Villagers stated that the family members needs space. Therefore, villagers are standing guard outside Mane’s house.
