The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration has decided to ensure that the official demarcation of the red line and blue line is carried out on its development plan (DP). This will help citizens get an exact idea of whether any property that is up for sale falls within the red line or if the area is demarcated for public reservations or roads.

The law committee of PCMC tabled the proposal to approve Rs2.55 crore demarcation of blue line and red line on its DP after a fresh survey of the floodline. Citizens will get the exact idea of public reservations and blue line and red line in the future, said director of PCMC town planning department Pratibha Bhadane.
Bhadane told dna, “After the law committee’s approval, the subject will be presented at the general body meeting and after getting its approval, the process of demarcation will start. Later, it will be available on the PCMC official website for the sake of citizens.”

The issue of marking of red and blue lines came up in 2010 when Shiv Sena corporator Seema Savale exposed a scam in which she showed copies of the original floodline map and the doctored map of a two-acre plot at Laxminagar on the Pimpri-Chinchwad link road.

The irrigation department submitted maps showing blue and the red line markings on February 18, 2009. These lines were not marked on the development plan of Pimpri-Chinchwad, but were marked on their maps. This lead to confusion so PCMC decided to get the lines marked on the development plan of the city.
The marking will help avoid scams, added civic officials.

Move will help enforce HC order
Recently the High Court ordered demolition of 66,324 unauthorised properties especially those constructed on the riverbed. The demarcation of blue line and red line will help determine whether the properties are legal or illegal.
