Even as the country continues to be outraged at the incident of gang rape in the capital, a teenaged Dalit girl was raped by two men at the house of the girl’s uncle at Jamb Khurda village in Satara district, while her parents had gone out to Satara on December 11.

To make matters worse, the rapists issued threats of dire consequences to the girl if she dared to reveal the incident to her parents. The Wathar police arrested two persons on Tuesday after the girl’s parents lodged a complaint at Wathar police station.

The arrested persons have been identified as Baburav Sopan Kamble (33) and Suresh Bali Kamble (26), both residents of Jamb Khurda village.

Assistant police inspector Haribhau Khade of Wathar police station, who is investigating the case told DNA, “The girl’s sister is studying in Satara. On December 11, the girl’s parents went to Satara to drop the victim’s sister there, leaving the victim alone at home. Around 11 am, the two men, who are residents of the same village, approached the victim at her house and asked her to accompany them to her uncle’s house in the nearby area. They allegedly took her to her uncle’s house where she was raped. Then in a bid to silence her, they issued threats that they would kill the entire family if she dared to reveal the incident to anyone, including her parents.”

Following the complaint, a police team of Wathar police station went to Jamb Khurd village and arrested the duo.

Khade said, “Both suspects live near the victim’s house. They are labourers. The victim is studying in Std VII with a Zilla Parishad school in the village.” The Wathar police have lodged a complaint under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
