Pune: Two days after the Pune Munipical Corporation (PMC) banned all construction activity in the city until the revival of monsoon and improved water situation, a delegation of members of Credai-Pune Metro headed by president Hemant Naiknavare met the municipal commissioner and city engineer to request them to allow builders to carry out works where water consumption was nil or lesser required.

Speaking to dna, the members said that they expressed the fear of delay in building projects and losses to construction companies besides delay in handover schedule of flats to buyers if the PMC doesn’t soften its stance. At the same time, they gave a reassurance to the civic body that they would co-operate by saving water in times of water scarcity.

“We have asked our members to stop works by the end of this week until further notice from the PMC. Until then if we get any access to recycled water from residential societies, we shall make use of it for constructions. At the same time, we have requested to PMC that interior works like plumbing, electricity fittings, furniture works that do not require water consumption should be allowed,” said Naiknavare.

A prominent city builder pointed out that most projects which are in under construction stage will incur huge losses.

“There will be losses involved for everyone including income losses for construction workers and laborers working on the sites. There would be other losses for buyers like delay in construction will lead to delay in possession of the flat,” said Anuj Bhandari, secretary, Credai Pune Metro.

At the same time, the members said that they would be carrying out a drive to educate people in housing societies on minimising water wastage and water conservation methods.
