The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is planning to come up with a comprehensive parking policy for the twin township area with the help of World Bank (WB).
Assistant transport planner (PCMC traffic cell), Bapu Gaikwad told dna, “The PCMC had approached the WB for a comprehensive parking plan and send a draft report to it. The bank is willing to assist the civic body in implementing a comprehensive parking master plan for Pimpri-Chinchwad.”

PCMC executive engineer Shrikant Savane said, “The process of appointing the WB consultant for the parking project is in process. For preparing a detailed project report (DPR), Rs 57 lakh funds are required. Once the DPR is ready, the implementation process will start. PCMC will have to bear the infrastructural cost of the project and the exact cost will be known only after the DPR is made.”

PCMC did not get the state government’s nod for its previous draft parking policy so the civic body approached the WB for financial assistance,” he added.

In 2011, the civic administration had drafted a parking policy for the entire city and send it for the state’s approval. According to that plan, the PCMC had stressed on proper planning for pedestrian facilities, footpaths, cycle tracks, public transport and other issues.
