The sessions, which is going to take place on July 25 will have participation from IT and core industry and officials from firms like Tata Consultancy Services, YARDI, Tech Mahindra, AKER solutions, Cognizant and several other companies from IT as well as from Core industry will come and interact with students and the faculty."Since, lately we have seen dip or even stagnation in the placement scenarios at the college for last few years, we decided to bring the academics and industry together where mismatch between demand and supply of manpower can be chalked out," said Sandip Meshram, training and placement officer for COEP.

He said that the constantly changing engineering paradigms, in response to growing complexity of the business environment, today have necessitated these two to come closer.
"A productive interface between academia and industry in the present times of knowledge economy is a critical requirement and failure to recognize each others role will reduce the interface between institute and industry," he said.He added that in order to carve out synergistic relationship between institutions and industry, the Industry Academia Meet has been organized where students and the faculties will have fare idea what exactly industry wants and how students can make themselves ready before entering into the industry. He said that this is probably after several year, such meet is taking place as till two years back, there was no need as the placement scenario was pretty good, however last two years, the percentage dropped.

"There are reasons for drop in placement numbers as there is a slowdown in the overall industry and companies have raised their bars while selecting the candidates," he said.He said that however though the expectations have increased, the ensuing meet will help students on which areas they need to be prepared before sitting for the campus recruitment. In 2013, 127 companies visited the COEP campus and out of 674 students from various streams like computer, information technology (IT), E & TC, mechanical production and others, 584 students were placed and the placement percentage was 87 per cent. In 2013-14, the overall percentage dropped to 77 per cent and this prompted COEP to brainstorm and introspect the reasons.Meshram said that the event which will bring together the leaders from all industries (IT, Core and ITEs) and Academia world to share their views on the colossal shifts and resulting trends impacting the industry today.

Swapnil Shukhla, the H R Manager, Tech Mahindra,, who is going to be present at the meet, said that at the meet, students will have a fair idea, what exactly industry wants from them, when they come for the interview and if the idea is clear, there will not be any problem at the time of actual hiring process.
