Pune: Alleging that a college girl was molested by principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Law College, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena workers created ruckus at Deccan-Gymkhana police station. They demanded suo-moto action against principal Dr Mukund Sarda, alleging that the latter had molested the girl at his residence on Prabhat Road on Tuesday night. However, the girl denied any molestation and refused to file any complaint against the principal.
Meanwhile, the Bharati Vidyapeeth management has suspended Sarda for his behaviour and ordered an internal inquiry in the matter. It is worth mentioning that the Vidyapeeth’s three employees including vice-principal of their Ayurveda College and two professors from two different departments were arrested for distributing money to voters in Rasta Peth on Tuesday.
According to the information received on Tuesday night, some of the residents of a housing society where Sarda lives, alerted the police control room and complained that Sarda brings a girl to his flat every now and then. Omkar Shinde, who had called up the police control room, said that when cops came in and knocked the door of Sarda’s flat, he opened it and told the cops that there was nobody inside. However, when they stormed into the house they found a girl. When cops questioned, Sarda and the girl told them that she had come there to solve her queries related to the subject. Meanwhile, party workers from the BJP and the Shiv Sena also gathered at the society.
Assistant commissioner of police Sharad Thonge-Patil said, “On the basis of the complaints received from the society and political parties, we have sent the report to the registrar of the institute.”
Party workers from both the parties were seen in the police station arguing with the police officers and pestering them to take action. One of the police officers from the police station said that they have received a written complaint from both the parties against Sarda. However, since the girl is claiming that she had gone to Sarda’s flat to get her queries solved, they cannot register any case against the principal. Cops have conveyed this to the leaders of both the parties.
Meanwhile Sarda, while speaking to dna, refuted all the allegations and said that he has become victim of circumstances. “There is no complaint by the girl and in order to conduct fair inquiry, the administration of Bharati Vidyapeth has suspended me,” he said.
