After 15 years, a Davis Cup player from Pune

Arjun Kadhe has opened a new leaf in Pune tennis.

The 19-year-old will don the Indian colours from the city, a first in 15 years. Arjun has been summoned by the All India Tennis Association to be a member of the India Davis Cup team.

Kadhe became the fifth player from Pune to be named in India’s Davis Cup team (reserves) for the tie against South Korea to be held in New Delhi later next month.

Kirtane brothers, Nitin and Sandeep, were the last ones to play for India from the city in 1997 against Chile in New Delhi. Since then, it has been a vacuum.

Shashi Menon and Nandan Bal were the others from Pune who got a chance to represent India. Also, Gaurav Natekar was selected when he used to play from Mumbai. He now lives in Pune. l Turn to p8
