The Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, the Marathi literary meet would be held at Saswad, which is part of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. And it’s the election year.

Saswad is also the birth place of legendary Acharya Atre.

The Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal in its meeting held on Sunday in Pune finalised Saswad as the venue for the 87th Marathi literary meet. Mahamandal president Dr Madhavi Vaidya announced this after the meeting. The Acharya Atre Vikas Pratishthan at Saswad and Saswad branch of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad will jointly organise the 87th literary meet in the month of December 2013, Vaidya informed.

Literature lovers and organizations at Pimpri-Chinchwad and Saswad were interested in hosting the biggest event. The committee of the Mahamandal reviewed both the places and gave its report to Mahamandal after which decision was arrived at today.

Vijay Kolte, president of the Acharya Atre Pratishthan said people from Saswad are happy to host the event and it would be hosted with simplicity on the backdrop of drought. But it would be one of the best meets held. He said that after two failed attempts of bidding to host the meet this year Saswad had succeeded and it was a honour for the Pratishthan to host the meet. Saswad hosting the meet is important especially since Kolte is known to be close to Union minister and NCP president Sharad Pawar. The  meet is being held on the eve of election year.
