A 43-year-old constable was arrested for allegedly molesting the wife of a fellow colleague on Saturday.
A 43-year-old constable was arrested for allegedly molesting the wife of a fellow colleague on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 1pm at BDD chawl. Constable Deepak Shetye attached with the Malabar Hill police station allegedly barged into the 30-year-old victim's house and misbehaved with her.
According to the police, the victim and the accused both live on the third floor of the BDD chawl in Worli. Police have found that the incident took place because of the past rivalry. Shetye not only misbehaved but also attacked her with a sharp object before fleeing.
The victim was alone at home as her husband had gone to work and her children had gone to school when the incident took place, said the police. "Shetye barged into my house and started abusing me. He also misbehaved with me and when I told him that I will tell my husband about it, he lost his temper and attacked me with a sharp object on the right side of my head," said the complainant in her statement.
When the victim started screaming, her neighbours rushed to her house. "We saw Shetye coming out of the victim's house and running away. We immediately informed her husband and she was taken to hospital," said Sangeeta Angane, one of the eye-witnesses, in her statement to the police. The victim went to the police station and lodged a complaint.
“Shetye has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered. We are investigating the matter to find out what exactly went wrong," said an officer from the Worli police Station.
Shetye was arrested on Saturday evening and he has been booked for assaulting, trespassing and outraging the modesty of a woman. Later, the accused was released on bail.
