The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has reportedly arrested a trainee police sub-inspector (PSI) man undergoing training at Gujarat police academy (GPA), Karai, Gandhinagar district. Police claimed that the man had substituted someone in his place to clear the physical test necessary for joining the Gujarat police. The arrest has sent officials and other trainees at the academy into a tizzy.

Sources in the DCB said the arrested person had been identified as Jagdish Gadhvi, 28, a resident of Surendranagar district, who was under training for the post of police sub-inspector. The sources further said that he had allegedly also obtained his certificate on the basis of forged documents. An FIR has also been lodged in this connection. The dummy candidate, however, is yet to be identified.

Himanshu Shukla, deputy commissioner of police, DCB, said they had received an anonymous letter alleging that Gadhvi had cleared the physical test by substituting a dummy in his place.
"After investigation, we found the allegation to be correct. We collected the information from the CCTV footage taken when the physical test was going on," said Shukla.

According to sources, there are other serious allegations against Gadhvi who had not only used a dummy to pass the physical test for selection, but had allegedly also forged documents to acquire certificates.

Confirming the development, VK Mall, joint director GPA, Karai, said that he did not know much about the investigation in the case. Sources in the DCB said there are more people involved in the case but they are yet to be arrested.

The sources further said Gadhvi is one of the 258 trainee sub-inspectors undergoing training at Karai. This is the 11th batch of PSIs at the police academy. The police are searching for the dummy candidate who had appeared in place of Gadhvi.
