The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which will begin its actual work in the Tulsi Prajapati encounter probe is likely to conclude the same within 90 days, said sources.

According to them the next few months will be very crucial for the police and political fraternity of the state as the probe may throw light on the alleged role played by some police officials and politicians.

A team of the CBI including investigation officer (IO) Binay Kumar, additional superintendent based in New Delhi, came to the special CBI court in the city on Saturday to conclude the administrative formalities.  The agency has a bunch of statements against some police officers who are said to be involved in the fake encounter of Tulsi Prajapati, said sources.

Some rounds of arrest are likely in the middle of the month, if sources are to be believed.

Sources said the entire probe will not take more then three months.Sources connected to the case said that, the investigating team has been mandated to conclude the probe within three months though the Supreme Court has given it six months time to file a report in the case.

The team will file the first chargesheet within 90 days as it is very well versed with the case because of its investigation of the Shohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. The probe agency believes both the cases are linked as Prajapati was a close aide of Sohrabuddin. He was allegedly eliminated by the Banaskantha police on December 28, 2006 to cover up the staged encounter of Sohrabuddin.

Sources further said that, while investigating the Sohrabuddin encounter case, the CBI had gathered many vital proofs and evidences, including statements of witnesses regarding the Tulsi case.
"Now, it just needs to find out the missing links about the actual motive behind the encounter and who exactly orchestrated Tulsi's killing," said sources.

It is also known that the CBI will make Mumbai its base from where the case will be investigated to avoid unnecessary complications. "The agency, during its investigation of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, had found that several prime witnesses were either threatened or influenced. Therefore, the agency does not want to take any chances and will carry out important investigations from Mumbai," a source said.
