Bank holidays: Banks to remain closed for 4 days, check details

Banks are gearing up for an extended three-day weekend starting this Friday, as a total of 16 holidays have been designated for banks in January 2024. These holidays include the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and additional regional holidays. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases the list of bank holidays, taking into account factors such as national or state holidays, cultural or religious observances, operational requirements, government announcements, and coordination with other banks.

In the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP), banks will observe a four-day closure starting January 25 in observance of Hazrat Ali's birthday. 

Here is the schedule of bank holidays for this week:

January 25 (Thursday): Thai Poosam/Birthday of Md. Hazarat Ali - Banks will be closed in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

January 26 (Friday): Republic Day - Banks will be closed nationwide.

January 27 (Fourth Saturday): Banks will remain closed.

January 28 (Sunday): Banks will be closed.

Republic Day, falling on a Friday this year, leads to an extended weekend for banks, with the consecutive closure of the fourth Saturday and Sundays. While physical bank branches may be inaccessible during these holidays, online banking facilities will still be available. Customers can utilize mobile banking for various transactions. However, for any documentation work, it is advisable to plan accordingly based on the list of holidays provided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
