Improving the quality of education and basic amenities in their respective wards is on top of the agenda for most of the young and educated faces who have made it into the municipal corporation.

These young corporators - their age ranging between 21 and 25 years - are prepared to address the pressing civic issues faced by citizens and are not scared of entering the House.

Anusha Valpdashi, 21, is the youngest corporator in the newly elected civic body.

“My main focus will be to improve the quality of education in my ward,” said the Shiv Sena corporator from ward 176 (Dharavi transit camp).

Valpdashi clarified that though there are other serious civic issues such as water supply and sanitation, she plans to focus will education as it will empower citizens to raise their voices on various issues.

Rupesh Waigaonkar, the youngest Maharashtra Navnirman Sena corporator from ward 108 (Kokan Nagar-Bhattipada at Bhandup) is 25 years old.

“It is now our turn to make the difference rather than blaming the politicians all the time,” said Waigaonkar, who was a student of Industrial Training Institute. “There are many slum pockets in my area, so I will first focus on providing them basic amenities and then education. If these children are educated, they will make a difference on their own.”

Bhavana Jobanputra, Bharatiya Janata Party’s youngest corporator, has just graduated in philosophy. “As I have got an opportunity to improve my locality and city as well, I will try to address the routine civic issues,” said the 25-year-old who was elected from ward 99 (Mulund Check Naka - ESIS Hospital).

“I am not scared to enter the house for the first time as it was my decision to contest the civic elections,” Jobanputra said.
